Epic snow weekend in Silverton, Co

Check out these pics (http://picasaweb.google.com/gmcfly7/SilvertonFebruary2008) of my boys' ski weekend at Silverton Mountain ( http://www.silvertonmountain.com ), a unique back country type of "resort" - one chair lift and one ups-looking truck to transport us and 75 other skiers to and from some great steeps, bowls, and tree runs. We arrived Friday night, skied Saturday and Sunday in super deep powder, then tried to leave early Sunday afternoon, as they were expecting 3 feet of snow from a nasty storm. We arrived at the gate to Red Mountain pass just as they were closing it and couldn't get through. Since that was the last pass out of the town of Silverton, we were stranded there until 4pm Monday, when we were escorted by snowplow over a different pass to Durango. Leaving Durango at about 6pm, we drove east, only to find that three additional roads/passes were closed for the night. Determined to get home, we had to drive all the way to Santa Fe, NM, then up I-25 to Denver/Evergreen - a 16 hour drive over 1000 miles!!! Luckily there were 4 of us in the car and we were able to switch it up, arriving home safely at 9am Tuesday. So that's the story. With one bar and 2 restaurants open, I highly recommend NOT getting stuck in Silverton, CO. There is _nothing_ to do there on a Monday, as the 2 accessible ski areas are only open Thursday - Sunday!
Anyway, enjoy the pics.
